DEKRA Automotive provides consultancy, training and outsource services to franchise dealer networks. Many of these services are underpinned by innovative bespoke software solutions that have become a key part of DEKRA’s unique position in the market.

As these software solutions became more complex, DEKRA engaged Freeman Clarke to provide an IT Director to oversee appointment and management of suppliers and the software development roadmaps.

Alex Underwood, DEKRA’s Operations Director, explained,

“We engaged Freeman Clarke and they provided a highly experienced IT Director, Pippa Thomas, who was quickly able to understand our business, work at our pace, and make things happen.”

The initial engagement was to oversee the replacement of some of the bespoke software products to improve functionality and to ensure that all data and confidentiality regulations were being met. For applications already live with a number of clients this was particularly complex.

Over this period DEKRA has undergone significant growth and change, with many new staff and new overseas owners. Merging new business units and taking on responsibility for their technology has been a key feature, along with identifying a new Strategic Roadmap and potential synergies with the new owner’s existing group.

Freeman Clarke’s IT Director has also helped build up DEKRA’s in-house IT team to take on an increasing amount of clients’ technology and telephony requirements. Having a capable internal team has been key to successfully delivering high quality bespoke software month in, month out. Specification to build to live is now a 7 week cycle, repeated 12 times per year.
