Alltruck are a Leicester-based truck rental and services company founded in 1990 that underwent a management buyout by the current MD and FD in 2000.
They are specialists in contract hire, truck rental, fleet management and workshop service and maintenance, operating out of three locations in the East Midlands, but with a client base across the country.
Alltruck differentiate themselves in a very competitive market by offering superior and unrivalled customer service and specialist value-add services. As a result they have experienced significant growth.
However, having operated with a number of different IT managers over recent years, Alltruck found themselves in a position where there were a range of issues with IT infrastructure and business applications.
Alltruck’s Managing Director, Paul Robinson, said:
‘We recognised that we needed an experienced IT Director to provide continuity and strategic thinking to address our IT issues, so we retained one of Freeman Clarke’s Principals, Iain Armstrong. Iain has been a great success and feels like a member of the senior team here!’
Iain’s initial focus was to rapidly define and procure a new robust IT and telephony infrastructure solution. He then oversaw the roll-out to new sites (including a new head office location) and existing sites as part of Alltruck’s growth plans. In addition, Iain defined a three-to-five-year IT strategy with particular emphasis on a flexible, scalable and robust architecture to enable business agility, reduce risk, and eliminate single-points of failure and security vulnerabilities. He also focussed on delivering efficient and predictable IT costs, reducing locked-in capital, and using IT to maximise productivity and to help make effective business decisions.
Iain has also reviewed all third-party contracts to provide transparency and clarity, and launched a programme of initiatives to enhance the IT systems that will be used over the next 5 to 10 years.
Iain works closely with the Board as a member of the senior team and won Alltruck’ Business Partner of the Year Award in April 2016, with the following citation from Alltruck’s Managing Director:
‘Iain has been instrumental in providing strategic and operational advice and support, in a year where we have replaced our entire phone system, standardised IT hardware and upgraded our network across all three sites. Iain also meticulously planned our move and managed our related suppliers, to make sure we were able to maintain our service levels with very little disruption. Iain has always gone the extra mile and was on hand to resolve any problems—of which I’m sure he’ll agree, we had our fair share! We have certainly kept Iain busy over the past year and are lucky to have had his support.’
